Arsenal (Russian: Арсенал, also alternative title January Uprising in Kiev in 1918[1]) is a 1928 Soviet film by Ukrainian director Alexander Dovzhenko. It is the second film in his "Ukraine Trilogy", the first being Zvenigora (1928) and the third being Earth (1930). The film concerns an episode in the Russian Civil War in 1918 in which the Kiev Arsenal January Uprising of workers aided the besieging Bolshevik army against the Ukrainian national Parliament Central Rada who held legal power in Ukraine at the time. Regarded by film scholar Vance Kepley, Jr. as "one of the few Soviet political films which seems even to cast doubt on the morality of violent retribution", Dovzhenko's eye for wartime absurdities (for example, an attack on an empty trench) anticipates later pacifist sentiments in films by Jean Renoir and Stanley Kubrick. Zvenigora, or Zvenyhora (Russian: Звeнигopа) is a 1928 Soviet silent film by Ukrainian director Alexander Dovzhenko. Regarded as a silent revolutionary epic, Dovzhenko's initial film in his "Ukraine Trilogy" (along with Arsenal and Earth) is almost religious in its tone, relating a millennium of Ukrainian history through the story of an old man who tells his grandson about a treasure buried in a mountain. Although Dovzhenko referred to Zvenigora as his "party membership card," it is full of Ukrainian myth, lore and superstition. (Wikipedia)

Vsevolod Pudovkin - Tempestade Sobre a ´Ásia

STORM OVER ASIA / TEMPESTE SULL'ASIA.

(Wikipedia)

This short movie was shot in Moscow on winter 1908. The producer of this film is Joseph-Louis Mundwiller (Pathe Freres film company). This company was founded in 1897 (and it was the biggest film company in those times) but in 1920's it became bankrupt because of the competition with Hollywood.
